SUKI'S TRANSPORT

When I get to transport them - I have to blog about them. One of the perks of being the Boastful Boston!

Suki is a little girl who had been taken to animal control along with her brother. The story went that they had been left in the temporary care of a friend who did not return for the dogs. The care taker had not signed on for a permanent situation and could no longer keep them in a rental house. Since the person who turned them in was not the owner, however, they had to be listed on the lost dog page for 10 days before they could be considered for adoption or pulled by rescue. For 10 long days, we waited, looking at their little mug shots on the web site. Finally the release day arrived and they could be seen by a vet and released to rescue. I coordinated them with another transport nearby so I would have 3 bostons in the car - none of them spade or neutered - hmmm - 3 crates might be in order.

Someone else was monitoring their release date and Suki's brother went home directly from the shelter. Only 2 crates were needed.

Suki is a very little girl - the halter and collars I had were way too big. I carried her to the car and let her ride up front with me until we picked up the second passenger. The shelter had told me that she liked to be carried everywhere anyway. She made it to my lap with no problem. Shhh, don't tell the police or the foster coordinator - not the safest way to ride. When I got out of the car to admit passenger number 2 she ran all over the car looking out all the windows. Why is this important you ask? Well because when we took her out to do business at her destination in NC, she acted as if she could not walk at all leaving the rescue President, and later her foster Mom to wonder if she had a medical issue.

Turns out that Suki was probably kept in a cage most of her life and had little opportunity or need to walk so she wasn't really used to doing it very often. Poor little girl. Bostons have to do the Boston Terrier 500, it's in their genes.

I called her Doodle Bug - her foster Mom named her Suki - maybe from the hit show True Blood or maybe because she looked like a Suki. Whatever you call her, she's a sweetheart with that one big blue eye and a heart much bigger than her size. She would make a sweet addition to the right family.

By the way, the second passenger is Roscoe - also on our available dogs page. More on Roscoe's ride later. Check them both out - won't you?

IT'S THANKSGIVING TIME AGAIN

I've been writing this blog for a few years now and have already covered the traditional Happy Thanksgiving and all the things BTRNC and our adopted and foster fur babies are thankful for. I could not however let this holiday pass without again acknowledging the wonder of being thankful for our four legged companions and they for us!

Unless you have just returned from an extended stay in outer space, you are painfully aware of the economy and the havoc it has wreaked on our budgets, shopping habits and fears for the future. Dogs and cats have been unwilling victims to this crisis even though their needs are few. Check out our home page, petfinder. com or your local shelter and you will read story after story of pets who had loving homes but had to be turned in to rescue or shelters because their families were forced to move to places that did allow their pets. I honestly cannot imagine how heartbreaking this development must be for the owners.

If you can afford to adopt a rescue, this is an even more wonderful time to do so. Many of our rescues are already trained and have good manners. You can skip the puppy stage which trust me, is not all fun and games. The rewards are never ending. Rescue dogs know somehow that they have been rescued and they thank you daily over and over again. What an amazing gift for you and the rescued dog for Thanksgiving. I bet that at your Thanksgiving table, you will remember to be thankful for your newest addition who is currently waiting patiently for a bite of turkey. If you cannot adopt right now, think about sponsoring a dog in rescue so we can continue to rescue more as the economy continues to struggle.

The Boastful Boston and all of BTRNC wish you a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving and we thank you again for what you have done and may do in the future to help these wonderful fur babies.
Here are a few pictures of some of our thankful "kids" who have found their forever families.

RETURNED - BAILEY'S SOUL

On September 1st, I posted a plea for the return of Bailey's soul. You can see the link on the right hand side of the blog page for a few more days. After that, click on the September archives link to find it! Here is the promised follow-up.

Bailey now plays with fur sibling Nakotah, guards her home annoucing visitors and has assumed a favorite boston position - sleeping upside down.

The tag line for Bailey's blog connected with so many readers. We are thrilled to announce that Bailey's soul is back - you can tell from the light in her eyes and the security she feels when sleeping. Bailey hopes that other dogs who have lost their souls have them returned soon. She wants everyone to know that there are a lot of lost souls out there and she asks for their safe return as well. Here is Miss Bailey today:

SIZE IS A STATE OF MIND

Have a large dog? Have fallen in love with bostons and wonder how a 12-25 pound dog will mix with your large dog? The Boastful Boston has the answers you seek! Read on.

Bostons as a rule are drawn to larger dogs since they have no concept of being a small dog. The fact that they can fit between the front paws of their chosen playmate is a non issue for these compact fearless companions. My own boston goes to the canine bed and breakfast for day care once a week and whenever I travel for work. His favorite friends? A bull mastiff, black labs, a Dalmatian, a husky and a great Dane. He will give the cocker spaniels a sympathy romp before returning to jumping on the neck of the mastiff for a ride.

Meet Jimmy formerly James, recently adopted from BTRNC. There is little more for me to type other than to show you the pictures of a happy family, happy Jimmie and happy Jessie with her new boston sibling.

Size does not seem to matter at all! Enjoy.
